EXCLUSIVE Interview with Annie of CIRQUE

Hello my lovely readers! Remember I posted on my Facebook page about how I got to meet Annie of Cirque and how I'd have an exclusive interview with her for you? Yes? You do! I was so thrilled when Annie invited me to her studio for a little chat! Since I'm about as creative as a 7-day-old lump of white bread, it was super exciting for me to be able to get a glimpse into an artist's workspace--you know, where the magic holo-ness happens! =D AND I got to pick up a couple of limited edition HOLOS!

So, without any further ado, here's my interview with the absolutely lovely Anne, with pics and everything!

1. How did you first get into making polish?
I think the "Maker Movement" of recent years is what propelled me to start my own business.  I love to DIY and learn about the creative process along the way.  I'm also a huge beauty junkie and I think making my own cosmetics was just a natural progression.

2. What was the inspiration for the name "Cirque"?
The archaic form of the word means "ring" or "circle" which symbolizes the color wheel and the endless color possibilities in the continuum.

3. What inspires your collections? What inspired your latest collection? Any hints about upcoming collections?
I'm inspired by New York City, my memories, news, pop culture, travels, interests, etc.  My latest collection was inspired by my love for the rainbows.  Arcus in Latin stands for "arch" or a "bow" in reference to the color spectrum.  I distinctly remember always painting or coloring rainbows in grade school.  I'm currently working on a fall/winter collection with no release date yet.

4. Do you have a favorite indie maker(s)?
I don't have a favorite and I'm open to trying pretty much anything! I have polishes by Rainbow Honey, Twee & Honey, Hare, KBShimmer, Penelope Luz, etc.

5. What are your go-to products for nail/cuticle care?
My favorite treatment is Nail-Tek II.  I use it as a base coat first and then when I'm done painting my nails I use that as a top coat and then seal it in with Seche Vite.  That combo has worked well for me with minimal chipping.  For cuticles, I use the Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover once a week and then I slather on an alpha-hydroxy treatment that I use for my face onto my hands and cuticles right before bed.

6. What are your favorite colors? In general? For summer?
My clothing is mostly neutral-colored but my nails are always colorful.  I'll wear pretty much wear anything year around - neutrals, chunky glitters, holos, rhinestones..anything goes!

7. This may be hard--but which are your 3 favorite creations?
Dark Horse, Sanguine and Lullaby

8. Do you have any other hobbies?
I like to make things - from dinner to knitwear.  I also love traveling and listening to live music.

9. What advice would you give to new indie makers?
Patience and planning.

10. Fun facts :
Astrological sign : Aries
Favorite comfort food : French Fries!  There's a place in NYC called "Pommes Frites" that serves delicious Belgian fries and poutine.
Favorite beauty item besides polish : I've been wearing YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick in "Le Fuchsia" a lot this summer.
Favorite fragrance : Joya Gunpowder Green Tea candle
Favorite vacation destination : Wherever there is good food; my last foodie destination was Portland, Maine.
Favorite candy : I'm currently craving anything paired with sea salt (like chocolate or caramel).
Favorite celebrity : I don't really follow celebrities
Favorite family member or friend (you can pick one of each) : My chihuahua, Valentino
Most recent read : New York Times
Most recent movie you loved :  I like to watch documentaries.  I recently watched one about a sushi master in Japan called "Jiro Dreams of Sushi".
Favorite TV show and character : My current favorite show is Mad Men.
If you won a million dollars, first thing you would buy is : A nice dinner out on the town.
