Hi there, my darlings! TGIF! I literally don't even know where this week even went...is it almost April already?! Wherever did March go?! Anyways...I'm going to be working on a contract for the next couple of weeks (yay, income!) and this feeling of the days rushing by is going to become all too familiar! Especially since I have to wake up bright and early in the morning. So, I'm taking full advantage of this week, and the upcoming weekend, to get blog posts squared away. I mean, Spring is here and I have much I have been saving to share. First up, let's check out some new goodies from Almay!

I love this concept! If you gravitate towards certain shades, like I do, you'll love these monochromatic palettes. Apllication-wise, I really liked the metallic and glitter finishes which were pretty easy to work with and, while they start out quite subtle, they allow you to layer on for a bolder, richer effect. The satin and mattes? Well, they left a little to be desired. There was a bit of fallout out and I found I spent a good amount of time blending and layering to get the desired effect for these swatches. Nonetheless, I'm totally willing to try a bunch more of these travel-friendly quads!

This was an interesting palette for me in that I was undecided, even after swatches, if I liked it or not. Still am, to be honest. I have zero complaints about the formula of these shadows--in fact, both mattes and shimmers were surprisingly easy to work with. Mattes, in particular, can be a bear sometimes but these applied beautifully. Still, I wasn't completely sold...with a name like Fabulista, I expected more richly pigmented or bolder colors. It's a pretty enough palette, especially for the price and most especially with those last three, darker shades, but I can't say I'd be reaching for this one very often.

Here's where the going gets good...and I mean, really good! Starting with the Velvet Foil shadows, right off the bat, I was very pleasantly surprised with just how little product you need! A little goes a long way with these babies and you still get killer color-payoff. Yes, they are THAT pigmented. As for application, velvet in the name should say it all and yes, it totally lives up to its name. These go on smooth as velvet and dry to a finish that will NOT budge. Huge fan of these!

Now, coming to the jelly highlighter, I know it's technically not an eye makeup product, but hey! I can absolutely see myself reaching for this one as not only a highlighter but a subtle eyeshadow...an eye-lighter, if you will. Pardon my penchant for puns! The formula is light and easily blended, application was just lovely, and really, I am quite taken with this!

And the return of a bit of color to the world! So, with the theme of what's turning out to be my life lately in mind, let's talk about a few new additions from one of my fave brands, NYX Cosmetics. Today, we focus on the latest in eye makeup!

Part of the brand new Off Tropic collection, these are some beautiful shades! I love the soft tips and the rich pigmentation. Bold colors, especially when applied directly to the lower waterline, bring an unexpected pop of color to your look and that's what I go for, when I play with liners that are not your usual black or brown. The blue, in particular, is so gorgeous!

ULTIMATE SHADOW PALETTE ($18.00 USD/$22.00 CAD)

If I had to categorize this particular, I'd put it in the Neutral-Cool category with its moody grays and dusky blues. Yeah, this would be a great palette for Winter but I also think these shades would work for Spring. Now, I'm a fan of both the color pay-off and the pigmentation of the shimmers but this palette has a few great, super pigmented matte shades too. I did find the mattes a little more of a challenge to work with in that they need a heavier hand and would probably be best applied wet. That being said, the dark blue and the black was pigmented enough to make up for any issues with the other mattes!

ULTIMATE EDIT PETITE SHADOW PALETTE ($7.00 USD/$12.00 CAD)

I saved my favorite for last! Now, these shades totally scream Spring (and yes, probably, Summer) to me! 2 matte shades and 4 shimmers make up this travel-friendly palette. Once again, I found the shimmers much easier to work with, both in terms of pigmentation and color-payoff. They even applied better. That bright matte red? Yeah, it's gorgeous but a bear to work with--I really had to layer it on to get the color to swatch evenly. That being said, I do believe the use of a primer or applying wet would take care of these issues. I love the colors so much that I'm still going to be reaching for it. Just look at that gold!

Hi there, my darlings! So, today, we'll be taking a break from our regularly scheduled beauty features with a fun little lifestyle post, courtesy of  the date night experts, Crated with Love! Ah so gorgeous! If you know me, you know how much I love a good highlighter! And these are fabulous, especially with the range of color of the three highlighter shades. Yes, they are all shades of pink and gold but different enough that they allow for customizable looks depending on which ones you use and blend together. The contour shade also may just work for my skin tone--it's just dark enough without being too much for a believable contour. Overall, a pretty perfect palette for the season!

EYE SHADOW PALETTE($18.00 CAD at SDM)

First of all...I love this palette! All four shades are shimmers (yes!) and all four are infinitely wearable, ranging from the subtle, barely there shimmer of the first shade to the richly pigmented depth of the last. Totally nailed the name and the theme! You can truly mix and match to your heart's content with this quartet--I'm particularly in love with the bright, yellow gold and the rich coppery shade.

Spring lipstick shades are inevitably just a tad too light for my liking--I'm a Fall shade kinda girl! This one too is pretty but probably not one I would reach for. I do like the formula and the stain finish--I do hope they come out with more shades!

Hi there, my darlings! Do ever associate certain brands with certain feelings? Or certain times of the year? In my mind, I always associate Pixi Beauty with Spring and everything that comes with it. Fresh. Clean. Natural. Pastel pretty. These are all the words and themes that come to mind when I think of Pixi. So, with Spring right around the corner, it just makes sense to me to feature more from the brand! Starting off today, I'll be sharing some new products that have been added fairly recently to the brand's collection. Take a look!

These are such fabulous eyeliners! So pigmented, just the right texture so they are not too hard on sensitive waterlines and so easy to apply. They just glide on and stay put! As much as I tend to avoid pencils that need to be sharpened, these are just too good to not put to extensive use. I definitely need to add the black to my collection!

Let's start with the positives: I do like the wand since thicker, comb wands work best for my lashes. I also quite like the lightweight formula--it feels very comfortable on the lashes. As for a critique, more volume please! This does give my lashes volume but not nearly as much as I wanted...definitely not the false-lash look! I would use this but more for daytime wear than anything else.

As you can see above, this is some serious newness! Housed in a lovely, signature green Pixi box, these eye brushes are wonderful! Super soft yet with really sturdy handles, they are just the right size and heft for eye makeup--you know, what I mean! Some brushes are too long or too heavy to work with comfortably but these totally hit the mark. I hope these are available for purchase in-store or online soon!

LASHLIFT 188 MASCARA ($24.00 USD/$34.00 CAD)

Swatches below, just a quick note: the middle swatch is me playing around with the some of my favorite shades from each palette while being able to show you how well these eyeshadows blend.

Mixed Metals: I really like the shades in this palette and, unlike many metallic eyeshadows I have worked with in the past, there was minimal fallout. That in itself is a huge plus for me!

Natural Beauty: I'm not one for nudes/neutrals, as most of you know by now, but I really appreciate the range of neutrals in this palette. I love that there are enough darker shades to complement tanner complexions while still having enough light shades for my paler sisters. It's a solid, imminently usable neutral palette!

Reflex Light: This one is my favorite of the three! All shimmers, all absolutely gorgeous, I had a blast just swatching these! Plus, I won't lie, I love that every single shade looks pretty darn good on my skin tone, if I do say so myself. Love, love, LOVE!

IT'S SO FLUFFY!!! Do you hear that in the voice of Penny from Despicable Me? You do? Good, just as I hoped! These brushes are so very soft and yes, so fluffy that you just want to use them. The larger powder brush is great for applying full-coverage face or setting powder, which I use pretty regularly. The Soft Glow brush would be perfect to use with your more intense highlighters or loose highlighting pigments--it picks up just enough product to allow for a subtle glow, without either the result getting too overwhelming or the product being wasted (read: a mess being made). Happily added to my brush collection!

APPEAL COSMETICS Rose Gold Liquid Eyeshadow ($21.00 USD)

This highly pigmented eyeshadow is exactly what your vanity was missing.The liquid formula adds a multidimensional shimmer to your eye look, giving it that sparkle that looks almost unachievable.

I haven't heard of this brand before Boxycharm so I was happy to be introduced to it. That being said, this shade is supposed to be rose gold but honestly, it was more of a burnished, coppery gold on my skin tone. I really didn't pick up much of the rose tones in any light. Nevertheless, a super pretty shade! The formula, too, was quite easy to work with--it's a thinner liquid so it applies very easily and with the first layer, it isn't too in-your-face, if you know what I mean. Of course, you could layer it on for a bolder, sparklier look, like I did with the swatch below, but this one allows for a more subtle look too, if that's more your style!

Admittedly, the shades would probably work best on a lighter skin tone than mine but I still love it and will use it! The highlighters, for sure, will get good use! At that price point, I probably wouldn't have picked it up on my own but what a steal that it's in the Boxycharm!
