EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with Drea of PURE POISON POLISH

FOREWORD :

Hi there, my darlings! As part of the current indie featured giveaway with Pure Poison Polish, I will be posting a review of a selection of the brand's products soon, which also happen to be the giveaway prizes! So, stay tuned! But in the meantime, here's an exclusive interview with the maker, so people can get a little glimpse into the world of the face behind the brand! How can one get to know a brand without getting to know the maker a little, right? So, I present to you my interview with Drea of Pure Poison Polish! Read on for a peek into the woman behind the brand!

1. How did you first get into making polish?

I absolutely love colors, as a kid I had to have every single color crayola came out with, as an adult I have every color sharpie has ever came out with. So being a huge polish person I was amazed to learn of girls making their own polish. I decided to give it a try because let's face it there are so many color options and I love painting my nails.

2. What was the inspiration for the name "PURE POISON POLISH"? Is there a story behind the name?

I have the words "Pure Poison " tattooed across my wrists as an ode to me being a Scorpio, because Pure Venom would sound weird. So, when I was struggling to come up with a name my fiancé and the tattoo artists at SoCal Tattoo suggested I use Pure Poison. At first I wasn't sure but it grew on me. Plus my first collection was named after poisonous flowers.

3. What inspires your collections (or where do you look for inspiration)? What inspired your latest collection? Any hints/ideas about upcoming collections?

My latest collection was inspired by the Spring and Summer break trips I used to take in my early 20s to Las Vegas, Catalina Island and Arizona. Tan skin, bright bikinis and yummy cocktails.
I did 2 crellies for this collection; they were my first ever and I love them. That might be the direction I go in for May.

4. Do you have a favorite indie maker(s)? Favorite mainstream brand?

I love Painted Polish, Lexi's holos are amazing. I equally love Sweet & Sour Lacquer, Darlene has got an eye for color.
Mainstream I would say Sinful Colors, the price is right and they are 3 free.

5. What are your go-to products for nail/cuticle care?

Sally Hansen instant cuticle remover, mani bombs from the local farmers market, Sally Hansen RX hardner, and tattoo goo to moisturize.

6. What are your favorite colors? In general? For summer? For fall?

Favorite colors, I have plenty. In general turquoise, I grew up at the beach so anything that reminds me of the ocean. Top 3 turquoise, purple and pink. For summer I would say teal and coral; bright colors for sure. Fall is more deep warm colors like plum, burgundy and navy blue.

7. This may be hard--but which are your 3 favorite creations so far?

Does my son count as a creation, haha I'm kidding.
Definitely the crellies from the spring break collection , it was my first time with white based crellies and I love the finished product. The holo glitter from the Deadly Blooms collection was also a favorite, so much sparkling glittery holoness.

8. Do you have any other hobbies? Are you involved with any other clubs, associations, or recreational activities?

Roller skating , it is AWESOME. I put on some Dirty Heads and just cruise the waterfront or beach with my family. I want to get into Roller Derby but my schedule doesn't have room yet.

9. What is your most favorite thing about being an indie maker? What are some of the challenges? What advice would you give to people considering starting their own brand? Overall, are you happy with your decision to get into the indie polish world?

My favorite thing about being an indie maker is all the girls I have met while doing this. They are all so supportive, it really is the best part. The most challenging part is getting the product out there for everyone to see. I can post pictures of my nails all day and say how great I think my product is, but really it's everyone else's opinion that matters to me.
If you're thinking of starting your own brand do it. Don't doubt yourself, because you will never know if you don't try. I'm very happy with my decision to get into the indie polish world, seeing all the amazing nail art these girls come up with using my polish is very rewarding.

Most recent movie you loved : Star Wars: The Force Awakens (yes I love Star Wars)

Favorite TV show and character : The Goldberg's, Beverly Goldberg because I can see myself being the overbearing mother.
