EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW with L.J. of ALL MIXED UP LACQUERS

FOREWORD :

Hi there, my darlings! As part of the current indie featured giveaway with All Mixed Up Lacquers, I have already posted a review of some of the new brand's gorgeous creations! Now it's time for an exclusive interview with the maker along side the super exciting giveaway, so people can get a little glimpse into the world of the face behind the brand! How can one get to know a brand without getting to know the maker a little, right? So, I present to you my interview with l..J. of All Mixed Up Lacquers! Read on for a peek into the woman behind the brand!

1. How did you first get into making polish?

I got into making polish after my husband introduced me to the world of nail art and watermarbling. He saw a video of watermarbled nails and showed it to me. After that I was addicted.

2. What was the inspiration for the name "ALL MIXED UP LACQUERS"? Is there a story behind the name?

No story behind the name. We were taking college classes at the time and on the way to school when we started throwing names back and forth and this one stuck.

3. What inspires your collections (or where do you look for inspiration)? What inspired your latest
collection? Any hints/ideas about upcoming collections?

Everyday life! I have found that if I try to just sit and think about collection ideas, I will think of everything but collection ideas. Just going about my day sometimes ideas pop into my head and then I make time to try them out, tweak them to my liking, and make sure it has not been done before or how I can make mine different than others. My last 4 collections were just inspired by things I like. I like things that glow, Avengers, Happy Hour, and I live in the South. Hmmm…a hint would be bright. It is summer, so I have to do something bright!

4. Do you have a favorite indie maker(s)? Favorite mainstream brand?

I have loved all the indie brands I have bought and tried. There are so many great indies out there, it is hard to single out just a few. I would have to say my favorite mainstream brand would be Sinful Colors.

5. What are your go-to products for nail/cuticle care?

My own and Sally Hansen. I like Sally Hansen’s nourishing base coats and strengtheners and I use my own oils and balms.

6. What are your favorite colors? In general? For summer? For fall?

In general, I tend to like blues and greens. For summer, bright pink, blue, or green. For fall, I like dark deep colors like maroon or navy blue.

7. This may be hard--but which are your 3 favorite creations so far?

Sky, any polish in the Avengers collection, and Meteor Shower.

8. Do you have any other hobbies? Are you involved with any other clubs, associations, or recreational activities?

Not at the moment. Life is pretty busy with 3 kids, running a business, and just day to day life. When I have the time I like to read, crochet, or make things.

9. What is your most favorite thing about being an indie maker? What are some of the challenges? What advice would you give to people considering starting their own brand? Overall, are you happy with your decision to get into the indie polish world?

My favorite thing would have to be getting the chance to create something others want to wear. It is a big deal for me that others want to wear what I make.
One of the challenges is trying to stand out. There are so many awesome indies and we all want to be noticed. Another challenge would be finding time to do all the tasks that come with owning your own business.
Advice I have is don’t get discouraged. After you open up customers are not going to flock to your internet doors. It takes time for others to see you have a good product and are a trustworthy business. I’m happy with my decision to hop on the indie train. I hope to continue to grow and make something amazing.

10. Fun facts :

Astrological sign : Cancer

Favorite comfort food : Cheese

Favorite beauty item besides polish : Hair care items

Favorite fragrance : Clean Linen

Favorite vacation destination : Beach

Favorite candy : Butterfingers

Most recent read : Nora Roberts

Most recent movie you loved : Guardians of the Galaxy

Favorite TV show and character : Forever (but they discontinued it); next is Agents of Shield

If you won a million dollars, first thing you would buy is : Probably something my kids have been hounding me to get them. Other than that I’d probable save it. I’m big on saving money and not buying everything just because you can.

So there you have it, my darlings! A little glimpse into the world of L.J. of All Mixed Up Lacquers!

I will have swatches of a selection of L.J's creations very shortly--sneak peeks already on my Instagram.

As always, I'm thrilled to hear from you, so don't hesitate to leave me your thoughts in the comments section below!

Until next time,
