Hi there, my darlings! Tonight might just be my last post for a few days--I mean, just until I get to India and settle in because you know I can't stay away from you all for too long. But, since I am going to be quiet for a bit, I couldn't head out without one good post. And I saved a great one for just this occasion. Now, if you have been with me for awhile, you know that with my educational background in Science and my recreational obsession with beauty, nothing excites me more than innovative products in the beauty world. Today's post is about just such an innovation.
The HiMirror is the recently launched world's first smart mirror. It has the capability to analyze your skin, identify areas which need improvement, help you choose a target focus and monitor your progress--all from the comfort of your home! Today, I'll be sharing with you a step-by-step guide to how I set it up to work for me and my first experience with it.
STEP 1: INSTALLATION
First things first. You need to decide where to place your device. Several options are available to you--you can mount it on a wall, adhere it to your bathroom or dresser mirror or even set it up on a sturdy frame to sit on your vanity. When choosing what works for you, keep in mind that the device weights 5.5 lbs and is the size of a laptop screen. Since I'm moving and will probably be taking it with me, I chose a combination of the latter two options. If you have a sturdy, large mirror with close access to an outlet, that might be your best bet.
The whole process is really easy and there are detailed tutorials on the HiMirror website. Basically, you use the included guide to position your mount so that the camera is at eye level, stick the double-sided tape onto that area, press the mount firmly into place and leave overnight. Next day, you can easily affix your HiMirror to the mount and plug it in. The pic shows you how mine looked on my vanity mirror.
However, my outlet is a little far away and I couldn't find an extension cord in the mess that is my life so I decided to prop it up and use it that way for my first analysis. Since the camera is adjustable, with a security cover to boot, it worked out just fine!
Yes, they have an app and boy, is that useful for keeping track of things when you're out and about. Available for iOs and Android, you download it, register your device and connect the HiMirror to the app through WiFi--I did have a little trouble with this part since I usually use Mobile HotSpot and that doesn't work in this case. You need actual WiFi. Once connected, the HiMirror will walk you through the process. It will record your voice as part of its voice recognition feature so you can login in with a command (how cool is that!) and show you how to operate it with hand gestures. One word to the wise, it's not touchscreen but responsive to a fixed set of hand gestures. You do need a little practice to get a hang of those specific gestures but once you do, it's smooth sailing.
Once the voice recognition and tutorial is finished, you're ready to start right away!
STEP 3: SKIN ANALYSIS
Make sure your hair is tied back and your face clean and devoid of all makeup before you begin! The HiMirror will once again walk you through the analysis. Make sure to be close enough to the device to have it accurately scan your face and it's a good idea to use natural light from an indirect source or regular overhead lighting. Too bright a light can actually not work as well. Unfortunately for me, I'm a night owl who happens to be in the middle of packing so I couldn't find the best possible lighting and I got a little glare on my screen.
STEP 4: CHOOSE YOUR REGIME
Now, here's where things get really interesting. Once the device gives you your results on a 1-100 scaled system, it will identify where you might need some improvement, help you find solutions and set your regime accordingly. For example, for diminishing fine lines or for targeting dark spots. And it all saves on the app AND the device. Very handy!
MY RESULTS:
Surprisingly, despite having little to no sleep for weeks and being stressed out, my skin scored pretty highly on 3 out of the 5 categories of Healthiness, Clarity, Firmness, Texture & Brightness. Texture and Brightness is where I didn't fare very well and that's where I intend to devote my time! Although a little finicky to get it set up and functional, the device is really cool! I love having what is essentially your own personal skincare consultant in-house. Plus, I heard through the grapevine that there are some seriously amazing features in the pipelines! Stay tuned!
So there you have it, my darlings! If you would like to pick up the HiMirror for yourself, you can find it on their website HERE.
