SHIMMER Polish : Part I--Marilyn, Jasmine, Mary and Karen

Hi everyone!! If you are one of my regular readers or one of my followers on Facebook, you know my deep abiding love for holos--holos make me oh-so-happy! But, in an effort to bring a more diverse selection of products to my readers, I've been trying to cultivate a love of glitter--it's slow going and something in me still wants to pick furiously at any errant corner of a glitter that numerous coats of HK Girl still hadn't managed to subdue. If you're a polish lover, you know that picking is basically an untimely death for a manicure! Sadly, many a glitter manicure of mine has been ruined by this need to just...PICK! So, what does a glitter-challenged person like me do? Well, she dabbles--in a little of this and a little of that and she hopes to find glitter polish that she loves enough not to murder-by-picking. And guess what? I do believe I've found some gorgeous glitters that I love enough to NOT pick at! Yay for me, Yay for glitter manicures!

The glitters in question are from Shimmer polish! This is the first part in a series of two blog posts that will hopefully show you the wonders that are Shimmers! These glitter-packed beauties are an absolute dream to apply--just the right consistency, not too thick, not too runny and definitely not too overwhelming! Several coats can be layered and then topcoated to get a dense, glittery finish that's smooth to the touch. I, however, decided to layer these beauties over 2 coats of various solid colors, or "undies" as we call it in the nail polish world. Except for Marilyn, which is 3 lush coats all on its own, all the swatches below show 1 thin coat of a Shimmer, except for the ring finger which has 2 thin coats, over 2 thin coats of the chosen "undie". I used 1 thin coat of G&G's HK Girl to smooth it all out and finish the look!

First up! Shimmer Marilyn, which is a GORGEOUS, dark, vampy burgundy red with fine black microglitter! The swatches below 3 coats on her own, without and with flash respectively!

Next, we have Shimmer Jasmine, which is a lovely mix of aquamarine, light blue, gold and green glitters. I used Gosh Ocean for the undies and I do believe this gives the look a whole mermaid-like appeal!

Next, another beautiful red, Shimmer Mary, which is a bright red with a mixture of black and silver glitter. I layered Mary over Sally Hansen Wine Not to giver her a richer, more vibrant look!

Finally, we have Shimmer Karen, which is a mixture of lavender, lilac, purple and pinks with "a hint of plum" glitters, as the maker has described it! I layered Karen over OPI Funkey Dunkey and I absolutely LOVE the way this turned out! I do want to try a gradient manicure with this one over a light lavender or maybe even a medium purple creme.

Love the Shimmers? You can find these, among a plethora of other beauties, HERE FOR $12 for a full-size, 0.5 oz bottle!

So that's it for this post but stay tuned for Part II--you won't want to miss it! Why? Because I have BLUE Shimmers to show you! =)

Until next time,
<3
